Two well-known properties on the peninsula will go up for auction October 18. A Bank of Maine company is looking to sell the Coburn House in Boothbay, the former Davis Island Grill in Edgecomb and two condominiums attached to that restaurant, an auctioneer said.

The four properties will each be up for bid starting at 1 p.m. at the Edgecomb restaurant site, on the corner of Route 1 and Eddy Road, Stefan Keenan of Keenan Auction Company in South Portland said on October 2.

The properties are being offered separately, but the high bidder on the first of the two condos will have the chance to buy the other at the same price, Keenan said.

Developer Tony Casella said he plans to bid on at least some of the properties, including the Coburn House. If he buys the late 19th century, former event center on Route 27, he would get it into “top-shelf” condition to be a single rental unit for families who come to the area for weddings, he said.

His Edgecomb-based, condominium rental business already does a lot of wedding-related business, Casella said.

He also plans to bid on the two condos, which could also serve as rental properties, Casella said.

The developer plans to bid on the restaurant, too, depending on who else bids on it. If a professional, successful restauranteur takes the place, that would accomplish his goal to have a well-managed restaurant near the properties he rents out, he said.

If he winds up with the restaurant, he would lease it to someone he has confidence in to make the business a success, Casella said.

If run well, the restaurant along the Sheepscot River could help attract renters for the condominiums, he said.

The auction company has previews planned for October 11, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Coburn House and from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Edgecomb properties. For more on the auction, including deposits required to bid, go to www.keenanauction.com.
