Political signs: Let them be
They are just about everywhere – political signs – and they are juxtaposed against the prettier fall foliage. There are signs for candidates for various offices, sometimes there are signs for or against a local or state referendum, and, if you look close enough, there are signs asking you to vote Nov. 5 – or vote for neither presidential candidate – we know where there is one of those.
We heard this week that some local signs have either been stolen or damaged and we were asked to remind our readers that removal and/or damage of political signs is a civil violation for which, according to Maine law, “a fine of up to $250 may be adjudged.”
We have less than four weeks until Election Day. No matter which candidate you are voting for, it shouldn’t prompt one to take someone’s political sign because you can’t steal all of them. Like we said, they are just about everywhere and you run the risk of getting caught, either in person or on camera, and face that fine. And more than likely, the stolen sign will be replaced with a new one.
Relax people. Leave the signs alone and just vote. You can vote early now so your decision will be made and you can hope that your vote counts against the one you didn’t vote for.
Look at and enjoy the foliage and ignore the political signs since they will be there until Nov. 5.
