Cast announced for 'The Vagina Monologues'
The Waldo Theatre has announced the cast for its upcoming community theatre production of Eve Ensler’s "The Vagina Monologues," to be staged at The Waldo on the evenings of March 15, 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. and one matinee performance Sunday, March 16 at 2 p.m.
The cast will include Christine Andersen of Boothbay, Chris Essler of Waldoboro, Violet Ferlito of Waterville, Susan LaVerdiere of Newcastle, Lara Rakocevic of Brunswick, Emma Theobalds of Thomaston, and Susan Hodder of East Boothbay. Hodder, who is also directihg the play is the theatre's executive director. George Bates of Waldoboro is the show producer.
Considered a landmark play for raising awareness about women's bodies and issues related to female sexuality, The Obie Award-winning show is based on hundreds of interviews with a diverse range of women sharing personal stories. The play has been described as “outlandishly hilarious and devastatingly beautiful, tapping into the deep well of human emotions.”
“We had a terrific turnout for auditions, and are already getting an enthusiastic response from people eager to come and see it.” said Hodder. “Each actress portrays multiple women whose stories are based on real experiences of women of all ages, races, religions, and economic status, but sharing the common human experience of being female. Eve Ensler’s ground- and taboo-breaking script has been revised since the play’s 20th anniversary, and we’re eager to present this timely and challenging material, in all its depth, to our community.”
