Three things
The Boothbay region’s giving community spirit came through once again on Monday as over $4,100 was raised for Robbie and Kristen Campbell at Community Lunch. The couple lost their home to a fire on Feb. 12 and the donations will help them get back on their feet somewhat. As people said, this community cares for those in need. Thanks to everyone who donated and best of luck to the Campbells.

There are those of us in the office who are not fans of snow and ice and are tired of the constant storms so far in February. We had it nice through late January then … the roofs, walkways, driveways, and nearly everything turned white, with ice forming underneath due to the last two storms and the below-normal temperatures. I, for one, have taken a tumble (Monday) but thankfully it was near the car I was digging out and I was able to grab the bumper to get back on my feet. Looks like we have a few more days of below-freezing temperatures so be careful where you tread … For those of you who like the snow, bah humbug!

It’s getting closer to the NCAA men’s basketball tournament in March, my favorite sports event of the year. Some in my family are diehard North Carolina Tarheel fans but I have liked the Duke Blue Devils for years, and it has been extra special this year watching Newport, Maine native Cooper Flagg leading the way for Duke. He is destined to be the top pick in the NBA draft this spring and I am hoping that someday he will wear the Celtic green. But in the meantime, he will be raking in the green from some NBA franchise.
