Wabanaki Drumming and Song Extravaganza April 13 in Newcastle
The Second Congregational Church of Newcastle located at 51 Main Street in Newcastle has long been a bastion of community spirit, a place where people gather not only to worship but also to celebrate the arts. In the spirit of fostering a deeper connection to music and culture, the church proudly presents its third community concert to be held Sunday, April 13 at 3 p.m. featuring John Bear Mitchell with a Wabanaki Drumming and Song Extravaganza will bring the soul and spirit of Wabanaki’s to life.
Penobscot Nation citizen and resident of Indian Island, Maine, John Bear Mitchell, will bring this unique drumbeat and indigenous language of songs to the stage, delivering a performance to reflect the history and inspiration of the Wabanaki peoples. The intimate setting of the church will allow for an immersive experience, where the audience can truly feel the rhythm and soul of this indigenous music, and enjoy John Bear’s vital translation and interpretation. Another great performance for children and families.
There are no advance ticket sales for these concerts. Admission will be at the door, with a suggested donation of $20 for adults, $10 for students, and free for children 10 and under.
