Dresden man pleads guilty to failure to comply
A Wiscasset man who was on probation for a previous conviction has pleaded guilty to breaking that probation and was sentenced to six months in jail.
Eric King, 25, of Dresden and formerly of Wiscasset, pleaded guilty to class D failure to comply with sex offender registry requirements on June 8 at the Lincoln County Court House.
King, a 10-year registrant on the Maine Sex Offenders Registry, will have to serve a portion of a suspended sentence.
King was originally sentenced in February 2014 to three years in prison, with all but seven months suspended, and two years of probation, after pleading guilty to one count of class C possession of sexually explicit materials of children under the age of 12.
As part of his conviction, he was ordered to not possess any sexually explicit materials, have no contact with anyone under the age of 16, refrain from committing any new criminal acts, not to use the Internet or possess any electronics with access to the Internet, undergo treatment, and comply with the Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act of 1999.
As part of King's conditions, he was also ordered to notify the authorities if he changed addresses, which he reportedly did but without contacting probation officer Christopher Dumas. On March 30, King was arrested by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
While Dumas was investigating the case, he found that King had reportedly been changing addresses in Wiscasset and had access to computers with Internet access. During that time, King also reportedly missed a mandatory counseling session.
After pleading June 8, King's probation will be partially revoked and he will have to serve six months of his suspended sentence.
