Maine’s Summer Book Fair: Books in Boothbay was held July 14 and readers were on the scene eager to speak with their favorite authors – and buy a few new, autographed books.

The event, co-hosted by Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library and the Village, welcomed 40 Maine authors at the 1847 Town Hall. Desiree Scorcia and Joanna Breen of BHML were pleased with the turnout.

“It’s a really unique event for authors, a book fair and mini-writer’s conference in one,” Breen said. “All of the feedback was really positive.”

Here’s what a few authors had to say:

Jacob Appel, writer of short story essays, a mystery, and a thriller wrote, “I had a wonderful time and met many wonderful people. I attend many book fairs and this one was a well-organized and coordinated event.”

John Branning summed it up for most of his fellow authors writing, “I sold some books, met some nice people, had a nice lunch … What could be better?"

Some authors found themselves helping dole out bottles of water. Margaret Hoffman, executive director at the Village said, "We recruit everyone!".

 Breen noted there were a lot of children at the event talking to authors. “It’s a nice family outing,” Breen said.

This was the second year Breen and Scorcia co-organized the book fair and Breen was feeling quite confident about their preparation. She said she was so confident, she wore high-heeled sandals, which may not sound like any big whoop, but if you don’t wear them often, or when you know you might be running around, it is.

“About halfway through the event something felt strange while I was walking … I looked down and the sole of one of my sandals was no longer attached!”

Ah, if only there had been a "Heloise"-type author at the fair ...
