All hands on deck for Gardens Aglow
With Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens officially closed for the season, it is all hands on deck for the winter lights display Gardens Aglow. This magical event will be taking place at the Gardens from Saturday, Nov. 21 until Thursday, Dec. 31, Thursdays through Sundays from 4 to 8 p.m.
Putting on the biggest and brightest light display in Maine is no small task. To lend a hand with the many moving parts, Boothbay Region High School senior Lisa Pawlowski is wearing many proverbial hats. Lisa is taking part in a mentorship at the Gardens this year as part of her class load. Although she works primarily with the marketing department, Lisa is helping with many facets of the non-profit; from writing blog posts to helping wrap trees with lights and even signing up for parking duty during the event, she is helping with many aspects of one of the largest winter events in the region. She is also currently fulfilling orders for gift ticket bundles, and mailing them out to be personalized and sent on to their intended recipients.
Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is happy to have Lisa in the off-season. She can normally be found helping down at The Landing here at the Gardens in the summer, and therefore was able to make a seamless transition as part of the team.
Gardens Aglow starts on Nov. 21, and will run on Thursdays through Sundays until Dec. 31, from 4 to 8 p.m. Gardens Aglow will be closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Please visit www.MaineGardens.org for more info, and to buy your tickets or gift tickets today.
Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, opened to the public in 2007 and rapidly became a much-appreciated attraction and educational resource for all ages in all seasons. It’s one of a very few attractions in Maine to receive the AAA’s “Gem” distinction and in 2013 was ranked the #1 public garden by TripAdvisor. The number of visitors has increased each year, with roughly 105,000 welcomed in 2014.
The Gardens is located at 132 Botanical Gardens Drive, off Barters Island Road, just over a mile from Route 27 and the Boothbay common. For more information and directions, call 207-633-8000, or visit www.MaineGardens.org.
