Alleged sexual assaults lead to indictment for Waldoboro man
A Waldoboro man was indicted for multiple felonies after he allegedly sexually assaulted three people in August and September.
John Wyman, 42, of Waldoboro was indicted by the Lincoln County Grand Jury on one count of Class B attempted gross sexual assault, Class B burglary, Class D unlawful sexual touching, and Class C unlawful sexual touching and Class B unlawful sexual contact from an alleged Aug. 16 incident involving two victims.
Wyman was also indicted on a Class B gross sexual assault on Sept. 23 in Waldoboro.
According to a police report from Waldoboro Police Officer Lawrence Hesseltine, Wyman is alleged to have broken into the house of a Waldoboro woman on Aug. 16. Once inside, Wyman allegedly sexually assaulted her while she was in bed.
For the alleged break-in, Wyman was charged with two Class B crimes: attempted gross sexual assault, and burglary. He was also charged with Class C unlawful sexual contact and Class D unlawful sexual touching.
On Sept. 30 the victim claimed that she feared for her safety and that her life was in danger, according to Hesseltine's report. The woman reported that after the initial incident, Wyman reportedly came to the woman's house and apologized to her and her adult child.
Another woman, not related to the victim from the first alleged assault, also from Waldoboro, claimed that Wyman reportedly touched her child, who was younger than 12 years old, inappropriately on or about Aug. 16.
On Sept. 23, Wyman reportedly made a call about an unwanted male in his house; the man was taken to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta because of his level of intoxication, according to the police report.
The two men reportedly knew one another, and Wyman reportedly told the man to call him if the man had problems with his drinking.
The victim reportedly called Wyman after drinking three beers on Sept. 22, to talk about his drinking; Wyman reportedly showed up at the man's house and picked him up. The pair later bought a bottle of whiskey, which they reportedly drank in the car on the way back to Wyman's house.
The victim reported blacking out from drinking too much, and when he awoke, he claimed he was naked and that Wyman was sexually assaulting him.
The victim reportedly blacked out again, and when he came-to he was at Miles Memorial Hospital.
Shortly after the incident, Hesseltine began the investigation that eventually led to Wyman’s arrest.
Wyman was charged with gross sexual assault for the alleged incident, which is a Class B felony.
Class B felonies carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and up to a $20,000 fine.
