An Alna man has pleaded not guilty to charges alleging he assaulted someone and drove into a ditch while drunk.

John Seigars, 75, of Alna was charged with four misdemeanors, including domestic violence assault and refusing to submit to an arrest after an alleged incident in Alna.

According to an affidavit by Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy Ryan Chubbuck, he responded to Alna for a reported domestic disturbance on Dec. 6.

Upon arriving at the scene, Chubbuck reportedly found a truck in a ditch outside of the home. When Chubbuck met with the victim, she reportedly had blood all over her face. The victim claimed Seigars had allegedly attacked her.

When Chubbuck went behind the house, he reportedly saw Seigars running through a field. Chubbuck reported that he yelled to Seigars to stop running; when Chubbuck caught up with him, Seigars was allegedly laying face-down in the field, with his hands underneath him.

When Chubbuck asked for his hands, to be placed in cuffs, Seigars reportedly refused at first. Chubbuck reported having to wrestle to get the cuffs on Seigars.

After being placed in handcuffs, Seigars was taken to Miles Memorial Hospital to treat a cut lip and to have a blood test done.

When Chubbuck spoke with the victim, she said that she and Seigars had an argument, and Seigars allegedly “attacked her out of nowhere and clawed her face.”

Seigars then reportedly left in his truck, before allegedly crashing it into the ditch. He then reportedly got out of his truck, went back inside the house and allegedly struck the woman again.

Seigars was transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset; and after being read his Miranda Rights, Seigars allegedly told Chubbuck that he had been drinking and he remembered getting into his truck, but nothing else.

Seigars was charged with four misdemeanors for the alleged incident: Class D domestic violence assault, Class D criminal operating under the influence with a previous conviction for OUI (in 2009 in Wiscasset District Court), Class E violation of conditions of release and Class E refusing to submit to arrest.

Seigars pleaded not guilty to all four charges. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 8.

Seigars was ordered not have any contact with the victim as part of the bail conditions.
