Alna’s town clerk withdraws resignation
Days after announcing to selectmen her plans to leave the job July 24, Alna Town Clerk Liz Brown informed residents via email at 5:31 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, she was withdrawing her resignation.
“Selectman (Doug) Baston and I have known each other for a long time and, based on a heartfelt conversation with him earlier today, I have agreed to withdraw my resignation and continue as Clerk/Tax Collector for the foreseeable future,” Brown wrote. “Whatever my long-term plans, I love this town and job and do not want to add anymore uncertainty to the present environment.”
Reached afterward, Baston described the conversation the same. “A heartfelt exchange. It’s personal (and) went to a lot of things.”
Brown’s July 12 resignation letter cited personal reasons and allowing her time to “pursue other ventures.”
Baston told the Wiscasset Newspaper, Brown’s staying on will help with stability in a challenging time. “With all the chaos and change, it leaves one thing as an anchor that we can hang onto.” He added, everyone knows and likes Brown. “And it’s like, OK,” he said with a sigh. “At least for a while we can, not have to worry about that position. We’ve got a little bit of stability, one place.”
