Alna selectmen fundraise for couple's medical bills from four-wheeler accident
Alna Third Selectman Doug Baston announced in an email Tuesday night, selectmen are seeking to help, and have others help, pay medical bills for Town Clerk Liz Brown and her husband, former Alna selectman Butch Brown.
"(They) were in a bad ATV accident a few weeks ago (and) their insurance carrier denied coverage. They are now faced with thousand and thousands in medical bills," Baston wrote.
"We as selectmen have decided to donate significant chunks (of) our annual stipends to match donations of others to help the Browns out. It is important to note that the Browns would only consent to help if they received nothing; all proceeds must go directly to their medical providers."
The gofundme page for the fundraiser adds, the accident happened in northern Maine “when a moose decided to run in front of them ... Butch’s Lifeflight bill alone is over $21,000!”
At press time Wednesday, the page was showing $950 raised toward a $10,000 goal. The Wiscasset Newspaper was also seeking comment from the Browns.
