Alna talks roads, eyes mowing
Work on Alna’s Cross Road has started. Ditching and grading began April 20, First Selectman Ed Pentaleri said that night. Plans called for a new culvert to arrive April 21 at the Golden Ridge Road intersection to end recent years’ recurring “ice rink” there, Pentaleri said at the town office and over Zoom. “(The ice has) been a real hazard.”
Most paving on Cross Road will likely happen in May and possibly spill into June, Pentaleri said. He asked for motorists’ patience with possible intermittent closures to through traffic.
The board gave Beth Whitney another five years on the planning board, named Calvin Cooper, Toby Stockford, Coreysha Stone, Jeff Averill and Xavier Comas to the new advisory committee on roads, and asked that anyone interested in a five-year term as a planning board alternate contact the town clerk or a selectman.
Mowing bidders were Mike Trask of Alna, $8,569; Toby Stockford of Alna, $4,000; Sevon's Lawn Care of Jefferson, $4,000; and Lincoln Enterprises of Woolwich, $6,750. Pentaleri expects the board to decide May 4.
He said Stockford also offered to clean up plowing damage for another $1,200; Sevon’s, $350.
