Alna town office progresses
Alna's new town office could open as soon as February, First Selectman Melissa Spinney said Sunday. The modular that arrived in pieces Dec. 14 is now together and is closer to replacing the cape just to its south.
The board will likely get the cape onto the market soon, Spinney said. The town has planned to sell it with a couple of acres.
One of the next steps for the modular is electricity, she said. Others include figuring desks' fit. According to Dec. 12 selectmen's minutes released Friday, the town has gotten desks from Maine Credit Union League and other furnishings would be sought from state surplus. That is still to come, Spinney said in Sunday's phone interview.
"There are a lot of balls in the air but everything is progressing as it should," Spinney said about the town office. "It's going really well."
Spinney added, resident Ralph Hilton is a big part of that. As a volunteer throughout the process and now as he and fellow resident Chris Cooper are doing paid work, Hilton has gone above and beyond to see the project through, Spinney said.
