Arrests made in Wiscasset theft case
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has charged two Augusta men in connection with a theft of a safe from a residence in Wiscasset on June 25.
The original report had been investigated by the Wiscasset Police Department. The owner had reported in excess of $40,000 was stored in the safe.
On July 19, LCSO detectives assisted by Augusta Police and Maine State Police executed a search warrant at an apartment on Washington Street in Augusta. Stolen property, heroin and drug paraphernalia were seized. A stolen vehicle was also recovered in the immediate vicinity. The vehicle had been stolen from Topsham on June 25.
As a result of this multi-agency investigation, the following charges were issued:
Jake Pilsbury, 25, Burglary and Theft, Wiscasset, LCSO
Derrick Smith, 28, Receiving Stolen Property, Wiscasset, LCSO; and Aggravated Trafficking in Scheduled Drugs, Augusta, Augusta PD
Smith is being held at Kennebec County Jail pending a court appearance. Pilsbury is currently incarcerated at Cumberland County Jail. He had been arrested by Portland police on a warrant and drug charges on July in Portland.
The Augusta, Wiscasset and Topsham police departments, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Maine State Police assisted in the investigation. Anyone with further information is asked to contact Detective Scott Hayden at 882-7332.
