The art of Jim Taliana at Miles Memorial Hospital
A juried art showing of the works of the late Jim Taliana is being held at the Miles Memorial Hospital, 35 Miles St., Damariscotta. Taliana, a much admired, prize winning artist, lived in Boothbay Harbor since 2001. He died suddenly in November 2012 while attending a family Thanksgiving reunion in Lititz, Pa. His works had been approved for a juried show earlier in the fall. Gloria Taliana, his wife, decided to let the show go on in memory of her husband. She will be joined by her daughter, Renee, at Easter.
Taliana was not only a prize winning artist; he was an energetic and active member of the Boothbay Region Community. His contributions ranged from conceiving and developing the annual Maine Photography Show to instituting the annual Art in Park Festival held every Labor Day. He created the artwork of the Boothbay Harbor Annual Report and the Christmas murals on the porch of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
He volunteered the signs for the Boothbay Region YMCA fundraisers; organized a multi-artist exhibition for the 2008 Garden Club Federation of Maine’s Annual Meeting and Convention. He was a past president of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation and a current member of the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce. In addition to his community efforts, Taliana illustrated books and taught year round art classes.
The show is being organized by Donna and Jim Stano. Stano and Taliana were partners at the advertising agency, McManus, John and Adams Advertising. Stano did the writing and Taliana did the art. The Stanos and Talianas have been friends for 37 years. Donna Stano has been actively helping Gloria with the selection and hanging of the pieces of art. It will be a mixed media show consisting of pen and ink, oil and watercolor and will highlight Taliana’s portrait of “The Bounty” the reconstruction of the original 1787 Royal Sailing Ship, HMS Bounty which sank of the North Carolina Coast October 29, 2012. There will be at least 25 paintings on display, many of which will be for sale.
The artwork will be available for viewing during the open hours of Miles Memorial Hospital through April 26, 2013.
