Thomas Powers
Thomas Powers, 78, of Edgecomb died Nov. 16, 2024 at the Zimmerli Pavillion of St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor.
Tom was born Oct. 11, 1946 in New York, New York to Frank Powers Jr. and Elaine Powers. Tom grew up on Long Island and attended The Hill School in Pennsylvania and The Browning School in New York. He attended college at C.W. Post until he was drafted in the Army during Vietnam.
Tom worked for his family business, Powers Chemco in Glen Cove on Long Island. He worked in various roles at the company, primarily as a mechanic. He left his family business to begin investing in real estate. He owned two restaurants and a night club, and continued his career investing on his own in the stock market.
He and his wife and son moved to Maine in 2000. Tom was a very talented person who was a skilled mechanic, musician, race car driver, and private pilot. He enjoyed taking engines apart, and putting them back together. He enjoyed spending time at the Owls Head Transportation Museum working on old cars and flying planes. He also enjoyed building musical instruments and raising animals.
He was predeceased by his parents and by a sister, Althea Powers.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Powers of Edgecomb; son, Roman Powers of Los Angeles, California; and niece, Andrea Moseley and her wife Melissa Boyd of Brunswick.
Tom’s family will honor his life privately.
