Art lovers can support stewardship campaign
Donald Demers, well-known maritime artist, and Peter Egeli, well-known portrait artist, have donated works of art in support of Boothbay Region Land Trust’s (BRLT) Stewardship Campaign. Both paintings will be on display and on sale beginning Thursday, Aug. 22, at Gleason Fine Art at 31 Townsend Avenue in downtown Boothbay Harbor. Marty and Dennis Gleason are foregoing their commission and providing space for the donated art. The two paintings will be on display until they sell. The proceeds will help meet the Stewardship Campaign’s $500,000 community challenge currently underway through the end of the year.
A big advocate of the land trust’s work, Demers is donating a new 16 by 20-inch oil painting featuring Porter Preserve, the land trust’s very popular and scenic preserve. The Egeli painting, “Dressed for Breakfast,” features two alewives caught and “dressed” by Egeli and friends during a fishing trip along the Damariscotta River.
This year BRLT is raising money for its stewardship campaign, to sustain year-round trails, boat access and working waterfront, and environmental education. Since all campaign expenses are underwritten, 100 percent of the sale of the donated paintings will go straight to BRLT’s endowment fund.
