Art show in Newcastle helps aid local support groups
The 14th annual fine art show sponsored by St. Andrews Church in Newcastle will support Maine artists as well as many local, national and international charitable organizations.
The event will be held in the Parish House at the corner of Cross and Glidden Streets in Newcastle. A reception will be held on Friday, Sept. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m., and the show hours on Friday and Saturday are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 10 am. to 4 p.m.
The variety and quality of art in this show will provide one of the best art shows of the season in Midcoast Maine. Over 40 talented area artists will be represented including Bruce and Julie Babb, Anthony Jackovich and Liliana Thelander.
The signature painting for the show is “Lupine House,” an oil painting by Bath artist Sarah Greenier, which will also be on display. A special treat will be a painting by the late Robert Franklin Gault, an associate in the American Watercolor Society and National Academy of Design.
A wide selection of works in several media will include many framed wall pieces as well as unframed bin pieces. Also, the stairwell hall of the Victorian Parish House will be hung with a mini show of smaller pieces.
Look for works by fine local clay artists and quilted and hooked pieces by Claire Wingren.
Signs in the Glidden and Cross Street area, near the Newcastle/Damariscotta bridge, will carry the Lupine House image so the location will be easy to find.
The Outreach Committee of the church will receive a portion of sales for distribution to such organizations as CHIP, New Hope for Women, Spectrum Generations and several others.
