Art students create mural in Edgecomb
Most art tends to beautify any space.
That is why Sheepscot Harbour Village & Resort in Edgecomb is collaborating with Lincoln Academy art students.
Lincoln Academy art students are completing a mural to be installed on a 40-foot pod located on the property. The pod is located in a location that is visible to the whole community; it’s centered in what will be a beautifully landscaped piece of property and right now it could be considered any eye sore to the community.
Tony Casella, managing member of View Development, is working on completing and rebuilding Sheepscot Harbour Village, which was started many years ago by Roger Bintliff. His goal now is to make Sheepscot Harbour Village Resort and Spa a family destination for the Midcoast.
“We thought it would be fun to have art students decorate it,” Casella said. “Not only is this a great opportunity to support young artists by displaying their work, it also gives us at the resort a chance to donate to the art department, and brighten the area for tourists, neighbors, and home-owners alike.”
Nina Sylvia, the art teacher at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle, described the project. “12 of our advanced art students are creating a large mural to cover a trailer currently being used to house maintenance gear.
“10 individually designed panels will flow together into one integrated larger image. Each panel expresses a slightly different aspect of aquatic life, as imagined by each individual student. The total ten will make up the mural.
“Once all the pieces are assembled the mural will measure eight feet in height and be forty feet long. The mural will even glow in the dark.
“It has been a very exciting experience to see unfold,” Sylvia said.
Evan Swinerton, one of the art students, said, “It is a challenging process to get the image to be cohesive while incorporating your own ideas with those of the other artists.”
As another way of showing his gratitude to the great artists, Casella is hosting a barbecue and pool party for all the artists and their families. While this is a closed event, the community is urged to drive by and see the completed work. The mural is scheduled to be in place before graduation.
