Bag sales benefit HYS pantry
St. Philip’s Help Yourself Shelf Food Pantry (HYS), 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, is eager for Damariscotta Hannaford shoppers to buy reusable Shopping Bags-for-a-Cause in August to carry one’s groceries. The Pantry receives $1 for each bag bought. Don’t want any more reusables? Donate them to the Pantry for attendees’ use. Buyers can be content that they will be helping the Shelf’s mission.
HYS at St. Philip’s is open each Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. for drive-by assistance. For emergencies, people can call the Church office at 882-7647, leaving a message including a phone number, or message the Pantry via its Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/HelpYourselfShelfFoodPantry/
Someone will be in touch to organize a pick-up.
Due to the wonderful support from Hannaford’s as well as Shaw’s, Sarah’s, Big Al’s, First Congregational Church, many businesses, people and groups, HYS can provide generous boxes and bags of nutritious supplies each Thursday.
While the Shelf does not have a regular delivery system, those needing supplies but unable to come to the Pantry Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30 may contact us via phone or messaging, and we will endeavor for a solution.
Over 40 years ago, HYS began as a bookshelf at the back of the church where those with an abundance could leave items to share, and those in need could select what they could use. Through the years, HYS has grown steadily as it endeavors to provide assistance to those needing a hand up, not a hand out.
HYS is here for you, just as those who buy Bags-for-a-Cause while shopping at Damariscotta Hannaford in August will be helping us.
