Feed Our Scholars program offered an opportunity to feed the community’s sweet tooth at a recent bake sale generously hosted at Shaw’s supermarket in Wiscasset. Community members brought a range of choices of goodies, something to appeal to just about everyone.

This successful fundraiser brought in over $300 for the program.

The Wiscasset area Feed Our Scholars program, also called the Backpack Program, will discreetly provide qualifying students with food filled backpacks to take home each Friday to insure they have something nutritional to eat during the weekend. Over 50 percent of Wiscasset’s students qualify for the free or reduced school lunch program.

Community members are invited to assist in this effort. These types of program have been shown to increase school attendance and improve student academic achievement.
