Bands for Books 2024 in the books!
Sept. 2 was the 10th Bands for Books, and it exceeded expectations. The members of the Fundraising Committee of the Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library started planning in the early winter months and their diligence and hard work was evident. Party-goers filled Lakehurst Lodge in Damariscotta for an evening of music by the Salty Dogs, appetizers, and a silent auction. The dance floor was crowded throughout the evening. A recent tradition has been to acknowledge those who have gone before us in the preceding year and have contributed to our community. This year we toasted Clara Dow Wentworth.
The Friends of the Library raised $16,000 for the library last year in various fundraising events. Monies raised were used for renovations in the circulation area (new counter top and painting), unexpected repairs to the building, and operating expenses (e.g., Children’s Reading Program, Young Adult Program, Inter-Library Loan System).
The Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library are pleased to announce that this year they exceeded the previous year’s revenue from this event. We are most grateful to those who attended. We cannot overlook our faithful sponsors who respond to our fundraising requests. Finally, our thanks to the volunteers who helped out in so many ways prior to the event and that evening. We are so incredibly grateful.
Mark your calendars for the 11th Bands for Books on Sept. 1, 2025. Want to learn more about Friends and our activities? Join us on Nov. 13 at 9:30 a.m. in the Library at 21 High St. and be a Friend!
