Bargain basement sets drop off schedule
As of Sept. 1, donations of clean clothing, gently used housewares, linens, tools, small furniture, books, toys, etc. will be accepted only on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The donation shed at St. Philip’s Church will be locked at all other times. On Saturdays, the Bargain Basement will have its manager or a volunteer at the shed to accept donated goods. We are restricting our hours of donation because too many things have been dropped off that we cannot sell or even give away. Bargain Basement space is very limited for receiving, sorting and display.
Over the past year and five months of COVID restrictions, our local donors have provided the Bargain Basement with hundreds of wonderful clothes, shoes, linens, small appliances, lovely china, rugs, valuable books, furniture and precious gift items. Local families have loved the bargains! Five dollars for a bag of clothes is a sweet deal. And all “sales” for other things are a donation, not a price.
However, many people have left items that are broken, dirty, too old (e.g., electronics), unlaundered, or very worn. Each of these must be handled and evaluated and then judged for sale, added to the Church’s trash or driven to the Transfer Station.
Therefore, Saturdays will be the day to bring your used clothing and other goods to St. Philip’s! If you have a unique item or very large donation, please call 882-7184 and leave a message asking to arrange a time with the store manager for drop off at St. Philip’s.
Funds raised by the Bargain Basement go towards maintenance of the church building that houses the food pantry and thrift store, community meetings and Episcopal worship services at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday. Thank you. Peace.
