Bolshoi Ballet’s ‘Nutcracker’ returns to Lincoln Theater screen
First of four presentations from BY Experience and the Bolshoi Ballet
The cherished holiday classic, “The Nutcracker,” is coming back to the big screen Sunday, Dec. 19 at 1 p.m., kicking off the 2021-22 Bolshoi Ballet in Cinema series at Lincoln Theater. Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece provides perfect holiday entertainment for the whole family with the experience of this superb, fantastical fairy tale through the eyes of Marie and her Nutcracker Prince as they travel on a magical journey of their dreams, captivating audiences of all ages.
“The Nutcracker” delights the hearts and ears of all generations of music lovers. On Christmas Eve, Marie and her whole family are gathered around the tree in celebration of the holiday. She receives a magical gift from her godfather Drosselmeyer and soon enough this Christmas eve will take an unexpected turn for her. Marie’s new doll comes alive and carries her into a whirlwind adventure.
This exceptional encore presentation, brought to life by the Bolshoi Ballet dancers live in Moscow on Dec. 23, 2018, features choreography and libretto by Yuri Grigorovich. The principal dancers are Margarita Shrayner as Marie, Semyon Chudin as The Nutcracker Prince, Denis Savin as Drosselmeyer, Alexander Vodopetov as The Mouse King, with the Bolshoi Corps de Ballet.
Productions of “The Nutcracker” first premiered on the Bolshoi's historic stage when celebrated choreographer Yuri Grigorovich staged it 55 years ago with a superstar cast. Since then, there have been thousands of performances, making it one of the most widely performed ballets in the history of Bolshoi Theatre. BY Experience, the pioneers of global live cinema events, has been distributing the Bolshoi Ballet to cinemas and performing arts centers across North America since 2014.

The 2021-22 Bolshoi Ballet in Cinema series continues with performances of “Jewels” on Saturday, Feb. 19; “Swan Lake” Saturday, March 19, and concludes with “The Pharaoh's Daughter” on Saturday, June 11.
Tickets are $15 adult, $13 members, and $5 youth 18 and under. Information on events as well as advance tickets are available at www.LincolnTheater.net. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door beginning 30 minutes before showtime.
