Call for abstract art at River Arts
River Arts in Damariscotta invites artists to submit work for a juried show of all abstract art. The gallery is pleased to announce the juror will be award winning, abstract artist Kayla Mohammadi. The deadline for submission is Saturday, Sept. 2 at 4 p.m.
Mohammadi received her BFA from University of Washington and an MFA from Boston University. Mohammadi has lectured at Rhode Island School of Design, University of Washington, and Dartmouth College. She is an assistant professor at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston.
Currently showing at Cove Street Arts in Portland, Mohammadi says of her work, “Although I draw from the landscape and still life as a way to explore ideas, my main interest is in abstract painting. Through drawing and collage, I work towards a simple expression of what I am seeing and feeling. Abstracting space through color and mark is what keeps me engaged with painting.”
Artists are invited to submit works that are nonrepresentational as well as abstract work inspired by landscape, figure or still life.
“Abstract” is open to all media including painting, sculpture, fiber, photography and mixed media. Artists may enter two pieces with a size limit of 20 inches (in any direction) including frame. Or artists may enter one larger piece with a size limit of 48 inches including frame.
Forms are available in the gallery or may be downloaded from the website: riverartsme.org. For members the entry fee is $15 and for non-members it is $30.
“Abstract” will run from Sept. 5 through Oct. 14. The opening reception will be Sept. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. The gallery is located at 36 Elm St. in Damariscotta and regular hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For inquiries visit: riverartsme.org.
