Creativity, generosity and a sense of community are key ingredients for the Art In The Square Fundraiser/Fine Art Exhibition and Sale.

Now in its third year, member artists and creative people from the entire community unite to create an exhibition of 12 by 12-inch paintings, and even some 3-D artistic creations on canvas. These compositions encourage the artists to think outside the box and to develop an artistic work within the box- the one square foot canvas.

The 12 by 12-inch canvases are available at the Boothbay Region Art Foundation (BRAF) Gallery located at 1 Townsend Avenue in Boothbay Harbor. The canvas/entry fee is $5 for members and $8 for nonmembers.

Expect bold designs, soft landscapes, portraits, still lifes, collages … from the realistic to the whimsical, and the very unique. Oil, watercolor, acrylic, fabric, monoprints, the works encompass a wide range of exploration and media.

Art in the Square entries should be submitted/dropped off at the Art Foundation on Monday, Nov. 25 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., or on Tuesday, Nov. 26 by noon.

This event also enriches the region's artistic community by encouraging and mentoring young artists through the Art Scholarship Fund, and furthering art education for all.

The community is invited to view the show weekends beginning Friday, Nov. 29 at 10 a.m.

“Black Friday, the first day of the show, is a great way to get a work by your favorite artist for just $100,” BRAF artist and volunteer June Campbell Rose said. “A lot of people do!”

Rose added that artists receive $75 and the Foundation $25 from sold art squares.

Another Art In the Square reception will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the BRAF during the Harbor Lights Festival.
