Call to Artists for River Arts’ “Black & White” exhibition
Deadline for submissions Jan. 7; opening reception Jan. 13
River Arts in Damariscotta is inviting artists throughout Maine to submit artwork for jurying in its upcoming exhibition, “Black & White.” Artists can submit up to three works in any medium including sculpture, photography, collage, painting, ceramics, and fine craft – representational or abstract. Black, white, grey and maybe a touch of the unexpected?
Work can be delivered anytime during gallery hours until the deadline, which is Saturday, Jan. 7 at 4 p.m. An opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan.13.
Juror for the exhibition will be Leonard Meiselman. Born and raised in New York City, Leonard Meiselman received his art education at the Cooper Union, the Skowhegan School of Art in Maine and the Cranbrook Academy in Michigan. Meiselman has had one-person exhibitions at the Camden Arts Center in London, the Yeshiva University Museum in New York, the Holocaust Center in Manhasset and elsewhere. His paintings have appeared in group shows, including the Allan Stone Gallery in New York, the Florence Biennale (Palazzo Strozzi) and the Hebrew Union College Museum in New York.
Meiselman was responsible for the creation of the 2014 exhibition “The Dilemma of Memory” at the Holocaust and Human Rights Center at UMA, His most recent exhibition was “A Protest Artist on Monhegan,” at Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick.
River Arts Gallery is located at 241 U.S. Route 1 in Damariscotta.
