Cartoonist and cat visit Damariscotta
The Maine Coast Book Shop is hosting two holiday book events this week. Cartoonist Jeff Pert will be at the book shop Friday, Nov. 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to sign his long waited humor collection, “Cartoons From Maine.”
On Sunday, Nov. 25 from noon to 2 p.m., local TV new reporter Don Carrigan will be at the book shop to sign copies of “Togus: A Maine Coon Cat.” He will also be accepting donations to benefit the Togus Memorial Fund and the Judy Doe Hungry Animal Fund. The first ten $10 donations will receive a free Togus T-shirt.
Since 1992, Jeff Pert's sardonic cartoons, particularly those featuring lobster and moose, have appeared in magazines (including Down East) and on merchandise sold throughout New England. Collecting more than 100 of his best, most popular comics, “Cartoons from Maine: How's the Water, Bob?” presents a hilarious look at Maine.
Togus, the beautiful orange Maine Coon cat with a compelling personality who was known throughout the state of Maine, recently died unexpectedly from heart failure. Most Maine residents and many who summer or vacation in Maine were well acquainted with Togus, the Storm Center Cat from WCSH6 and WLBZ2.
Togus lived in South Bristol with Midcoast reporter Don Carrigan, who frequently makes his broadcasts from home, especially during winter storms. Togus often appeared with Don and became well known to the audience, eventually becoming a mascot to the NBC sister stations and a celebrity in his own right.
The Maine Coast Book Shop is located at 158 Main St., in Damariscotta. For more information and to reserve your signed copy of “Cartoons From Maine” and “Togus,” call 207-563-3207 or visit www.mainecoastbookshop.com.
