Cause of Damariscotta fire under investigation
The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of an Aug. 19 fire on the deck of a building on the 600 block of Main Street in Damariscotta, Damariscotta Fire Chief John Roberts said.
The fire was first reported as a fully involved structure fire at about 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, prompting Newcastle’s, Bristol’s and Nobleboro’s fire departments to also respond, Roberts said Aug. 21. However, the fire turned out to be confined to the building’s deck and firefighters were able to put it out using only extinguishers, he said.
The cause of Tuesday night’s fire does not appear suspicious, Roberts said. A representative of the fire marshal’s office was investigating, he said.
A message left at the fire marshal’s office Thursday was not immediately returned.
The vacant building formerly housed Maine Oxy, Roberts said. No one was hurt in the fire.
