Chapman-Hall House opens for summer
Summer is here and Lincoln County Historical Association’s Chapman-Hall House is open to the public. The hours are noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
The Chapman-Hall House Stewardship Committee has been very active in readying the house for the public and organizing activities for the upcoming season.
With the help of the Damariscotta Newcastle Lions Club, the east gable end was stripped and reshingled with cedar shakes. This spring, the opposite gable end was completed, and the ell is in process. By fall, the entire siding will be completely restored.
Our summer events offer many reasons to visit Chapman-Hall House. On Saturday, June 22 beginning at noon, Jeff Miller of Flintlock Forge in Waldoboro will demonstrate traditional blacksmithing techniques.
Jeff apprenticed at Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts, eventually becoming head of its Moses Wilder Blacksmith Shop. One his hand forged barbeque roasting forks will be raffled off at this event, which is sponsored by Bath Savings Institution.
On July 6, we’re hosting Damariscotta Day, an open house for Damariscotta residents. It’s an occasion for us to thank everyone who contributed to our renovation project, and we hope to see lots of people take this opportunity to visit at no charge.
On July 13, we will have our annual yard and rummage sale in Damariscotta at the corner of Elm and Church Streets. Contributions are currently being accepted. Call Natalie House 207-563-8441 or Deane Brewer 207-563-3289.
Chapman-Hall House, which overlooks downtown at the corner of Main and Church Streets, is one of the oldest houses in Damariscotta, illustrating period architecture from 1754, 1790 and 1830.
The Lincoln County Historical Association is an all-volunteer nonprofit that provides stewardship for the 1754 Chapman-Hall House in Damariscotta, the 1761 Pownalborough Court House in Dresden, and the 1811 Old Jail and Museum in Wiscasset. For more information, visit www.lincolncountyhistory.org.
