Charles A. Barnes
Charles A. Barnes, 85, of Gardiner Road died Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.
He was born in Wiscasset on February 4, 1928, son of Charles S. and Cora (Erskine) Barnes.
He graduated from Wiscasset Academy and entered the U. S. Army Air Corp where he earned the rank of sergeant.
On June 24, 1950 he married Willie "Billie" Ingram. He owned and operated a sawmill in Wiscasset with his grandfather buying and cutting wood lots. He was employed at Bath Iron Works as a rigger, retiring in 1991.
He enjoyed pulling horses, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
He was a member of the American Legion in Wiscasset and the Masons Lodge #3 in Wiscasset.
He was predeceased by his wife Willie Barnes on June 5, 2007, and three brothers, Bob Barnes, Carl Barnes and Richard Barnes.
He is survived by four brothers, Roy Barnes and his wife Aleene of Wiscasset, David Barnes and his wife Gloria of Phippsburg, Bill Barnes of Wiscasset and Kingsley Barnes of Pittston; two sisters, Carlene Wright of Woolwich and Sandra Winters and her husband Wesley of Belgrade; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours were held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial followed at Old Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset.
