Chinese bath salts lead to Boothbay Harbor man’s arrest
A Boothbay Harbor man was arrested Dec. 9 for aggravated furnishing of Schedule W drugs, bath salts, according to release from Boothbay Harbor Police Department and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Aaron Witt, 31, was arrested at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, where he was in custody for probation violations stemming from a 2011 conviction in Rockland, the release states. In that case, Witt was arrested by Rockland Police and MDEA agents, and charged with allegedly manufacturing DMT in a kitchen.
In the Dec. 11 release, police and the MDEA state that Witt received bath salts and DMT from illegal sources in the country of China via the U.S. Postal Service.
“Agents found that Witt had gotten dozens of illegal drug packages through the mail throughout the summer and fall of 2014,” the release states. “During a probation search of Witt, police seized APVP (bath salts) and DMT, along with evidence of use of the illegal drugs.”
The MDEA and Boothbay Harbor Police officers Nick Upham, Larry Brown and Chief Bob Hasch investigated the case.
Police said in the release that they also seized 10 grams of an “unknown powder,” also from China, which will be analyzed to determine what it is.
Witt's 23-year-old girlfriend, Audrey Saremi, of Lewiston was charged with unlawful possession of bath salts, class D.
Saremi will appear at Wiscasset District Court on Jan. 26, 2015.
