Class of 2019 gets advice, praise at alumni banquet

At the Wiscasset Alumni Association annual banquet Saturday, June 1, President Nancy Sherman Roby, Class of 1967, encouraged the Class of 2019 to treasure every moment in life and enjoy the journey.
She also advised the class's members to choose to be positive in life and always treat others with kindness.
Debra Pooler reminded them that while they may be small, they are still incredibly mighty and will go off to do great things. Wiscasset Middle High School Principal Charles Lomonte and Superintendent of Schools Terry Wood spoke to how special the class is, and said they are so proud and pleased with the class. They encouraged the students to come back to banquets in the years to come.
Wood also mentioned that from her first interview in Wiscasset, she knew it was home. She feels it is a wonderful place to be and she loves the kids, she said. Wood noted how well behaved and respectful the class of 2019 has been throughout her first year here.
Class of 2019 co-presidents Matt Chapman and Sydnie Thayer thanked the alumni for welcoming them and also welcomed everyone to attend graduation, at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 6.
Two scholarships were awarded at the banquet. The Past Presidents Scholarship went to Thayer and to Megan Delong. The Lucille Quinham Shea Scholarship went to Thayer.
The event started off with Roby's welcoming remarks, chaplin Betty Applin, Class of 1970, and the Pledge of Allegience.
Attendees were then welcomed to fill their plates with a wonderful dinner catered by Sarah's Cafe in Wiscasset. There was no shortage of smiles and laughter as friends reunited and reminisced on their time spent at Wiscasset High School. Many heartwarming speeches were given throughout the night that would offer the class of 2019 great advice.
