Coastal Humane Society to offer Animal Camp summer program for kids
Coastal Humane Society announced Friday that it will offer a new summer program for kids. After many successful seasons of the shelter’s popular Vet Camp, Coastal Humane Society will now be offering week-long summer camps for kids entering grades 1-6.
“Animal Camp” will educate campers about shelter animals but also wildlife, exotic animals, “animal cops,” therapy animals, and more, and will include presentations by professionals in many different animal-related fields. Campers will have daily interaction with animals.
Other activities include crafts and games, and even some time volunteering at the Animal Shelter at 30 Range Road, Brunswick.
The program is headed up by Chris Wolff, director of Programs and Community Relations at Coastal Humane Society.
“The camp is designed to be a fun, educational experience for kids who love animals,” said Wolff. “Vet Camp was incredibly popular, and we wanted to build upon that success. Animal Camp will allow kids to have an in-depth humane education experience, learning about animal behavior, animal sheltering, veterinary medicine and more.”
The camp meets daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for five days (though parents may opt for earlier drop off and later pick up.)
Coastal Humane Society will also continue to offer Vet for a Day for kids ages 12-18, which provides an incredible opportunity for kids to shadow the shelter’s veterinarian, Dr. Mandie Wehr. Kids will spend time in the clinic, observing surgeries and learning about shelter medicine from one of New England’s leaders in the field.
Registration is now open for both programs. To sign up, please visit the shelter’s website (coastalhumanesociety.org) and click on “Just for Kids.” Call Chris Wolff at 449-1366 ext. 5 for more information or email programs@coastalhumanesociety.org.
