Commissioners appoint Meserve to hear state land claims case
Lincoln County commissioners appointed Hamilton Meserve of Southport July 5 to hear a State Land Claims case hearing involving a Maine Department of Transportation project in Boothbay Harbor. Meserve is a county commissioner and Boothbay Harbor is in his district. County Administrator Carrie Kipfer reported the commission settled all but two of 13 land takings. The two unresolved takings are properties owned by Ocean View Condominium Association and Harold D. and Rebecca G. Whitson of Mill Spring, North Carolina.
Kipfer reported the commission set a July 27 hearing date at the county courthouse. No time was set. MDOT took the properties as part of a spring maintenance project on Atlantic Avenue. The project consisted of altering, widening and changing the road’s grade and drainage.
On July 6, Maine State Land Claims Commission clerk Richard Estabrook reported a settlement with Ocean View Condominiums was reached. “If no settlement is reached with the remaining parcel then we will proceed with the hearing,” he said.
