County treasurer set to leave post at year’s end
Lincoln County Treasurer Rick Newell will leave his term a little early. Newell informed county commissioners Nov. 16, he will resign at year’s end. The Republican was elected to a third four-year term in 2018.
“In the past 10 years, it’s been my privilege to serve as the Lincoln County treasurer. However, it is with great regret I must tender my resignation effective Dec. 31, 2020. I wish you well, as you continue to serve the county to the best of your abilities. It has been an honor to serve with each of you and I wish you well,” he read.
Gov. Janet Mills will appoint a successor to serve the term’s final two years. She must seek nominations from the Lincoln County Republican Committee. Newell asked the commissioners to notify Mills who he has in mind for a successor. He suggested Lincoln County Finance Director Michelle Richardson. “My recommendation is someone who lives in Lincoln County and is a registered Republican which is a requirement,” he said. “Her level of knowledge and understanding of government finance is nothing short of amazing. She has transformed the department into a well-oiled machine,” Newell said.
Mills is waiting for a recommendation from the Lincoln County Republican Committee.
