COVID-19 outbreak at TBRJ may involve 24 inmates, three workers
On Tuesday, April 27, Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset was confirmed by Maine Center for Disease Control as having a COVID-19 outbreak (more than three positive cases). When TBRJ was first notified of positive cases, we enacted our Pandemic Plan to deal with the cases. This included universal testing for all inmates and staff at the facility.
Once we became confirmed as having an outbreak, we began further procedures including diverting all new arrests/committals to other facilities, suspending all programming and non-essential services at the facility, isolating known positive cases away from others, and quarantining areas where positive cases had come from.
To date, TBRJ has completed one round of PCR testing on all staff and inmates and currently have the following cases: 24 inmates either confirmed by PCR testing or who have tested positive on a Rapid test; two TBRJ staff members; and one contract staff member.
We have been in contact with Maine CDC and following all recommendations, including further testing of the next few weeks.
