A. Craig Paine
Anthony Craig Paine, 87, passed away peacefully at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, Maine on April 10, 2025.
Craig was born in Boothbay Harbor, Maine on Feb. 17, 1938, the son of Louis E. and Gwendolyn V. Paine. He attended local schools and worked seasonally for Carbone’s Boothbay Fruit Company, spending winters with his family in Florida.
Craig was well-known around Boothbay Harbor and cherished for his ready smile. He was often seen riding his motorcycle around town, finally hanging up his helmet just a few years ago. He enjoyed participating in sports: playing in the men’s softball league, bowling on men’s teams at Romar Bowling Lanes, shooting pool around town, and was a daily fixture at the Garfield Street paddle ball court on Hollywood Beach, Florida.
He was a life-long Red Sox fan. Craig loved socializing with family and friends, singing along with Kay Brown at the Tugboat, and was one of the smoothest dance partners on the floor.
Craig was predeceased by his parents, sister Jacqueline, and his brother Travis.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Judith Paine, of Boothbay Harbor; niece Jackie Paine of Portland; niece Vicki Paine and partner, Vincent Dodge, of Boothbay Harbor; nephew Travis Paine of Warren; seven great-nephews and nieces; and eight great-grand-nephews and nieces.
Craig’s family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Alan Barker and district nurse Laurie Andrews for their support of Craig’s wish to remain in his home as long as possible, and to the doctors and nurses at Miles Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care of Craig during his final two days of life.
Details for a celebration of life will be shared in the near future.
