Cubbyhole holding silent auction to help seniors with winter heating costs
The holidays are just around the corner, the evenings are drawing in, and all over Maine people are preparing for a holiday season that is uncharted. Some of our seniors are facing a problem that seems insurmountable for them, staying warm. Carla Chapman, a co-owner of Cubbyhole Sports Pub in Wiscasset, knows this problem. Carla lost her mother, Judi Grant, on July 13 and this was a situation that she often faced in assisting her mother. Heating oil prices are out of the reach of many of our seniors and Carla and Lettie (the other co-owner) are planning a silent auction in her honor. Proceeds will be used to help our seniors purchase heating fuel. This will be confidential, and recipients’ names will be protected.
The patrons and friends of the Cubbyhole have been donating gift baskets for this auction. Currently, they have an impressive assortment of items including some lovely artwork that would be a wonderful addition to any home, a Coach purse that would make a wonderful Christmas gift and some baskets that contain an assortment of items including wine. These are only a few of the items they have received. Please stop by the Cubbyhole, 213 West Alna Road in Wiscasset to view the baskets, place a bid or donate. Bidding closes Dec. 12 and winners will be notified.
Carla is also looking for the names of people who would be willing to help with plowing and shoveling for some of our seniors. If you are willing and able to assist, please give her a call at 844-4187. The Cubbyhole is open Wednesday-Saturday from noon to closing.
Chapman can also be reached at 207-687-2079.
