Damariscotta Farmers’ Market begins May 16
The 36th year of the Damariscotta Farmers’ Market begins Friday, May 16.
The market runs each Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine, at the field next to the Damariscotta River Association on Belvedere Road. The Monday market begins June 3, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the back parking lot of the Rising Tide Community Market.
One of the oldest markets in Maine, the DFM is always entertaining and provides its visitors with fresh local produce, meats, fiber, crafts, baked goods, flowers, coffee, seafood, cheese, prepared foods, beeswax products and more.
This will likely be the final year for the market at its current location on Belvedere Road. The membership voted to move to Round Top Farm for the 2015 season.
"Our current location is gorgeous and everyone loves the beautiful views and the wide open space,” said market manager Derek DeGeer. “It's just far enough out of town to keep us one of the area's best kept secrets. We feel that the Round Top Campus is just as intriguing, and is going to be more convenient for our current and potential customers."
The first challenge for the location change is to improve the drainage around the field where the winter skating rink is located. The DFM is currently seeking a landscaper or architect to assist with the design.
Customers and vendors alike can still enjoy the stunning water views and rolling hills around the DRA Great Salt Bay Heritage Center while enjoying the Damariscotta Farmers’ Market this season.
