DAR Pemaquid Chapter announces new regent and Good Citizenship winners
Daughters of the American Revolution, Pemaquid Chapter, held its first meeting in 2016 on May 14 at The Lincoln Home in Newcastle. The chapter held a memorial service for the late, former chapter and State Regent, Susan Turkey, also for former member Gale Hochgraf. Three Lincoln County high school student winners were honored for their participation in the DAR Good Citizenship Award event. The well attended meeting was presided over by Louise Brown, who after 10 years of service to the organization passed the gavel to new Regent Audrey Miller.
The meeting opened with the Ritual, consisting of the Invocation, Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag, The American’s Creed and The Preamble to the Constitution of the United States, led by Chaplain-Pro tem Miriam Buckley and Louise Brown. The President General’s message was read by Diane Randlett.
The Good Citizen Award for Lincoln County this year was awarded to Boothbay Region High senior Anna Baumm, daughter of Marni Mitchell and the late Keith A. Baumm. Medomak Valley senior Claire Lupien, daughter of Thomas and Lara Lupien, and Wiscasset's Noah Freeman Jones, son of Chris and Tina Jones, each won for their respective schools. Four senior students are chosen annually by a teacher in each of the four school districts in Lincoln County; classmates then vote on which student they choose for the award. Once chosen, the student prepares a paper on a DAR presented topic. The essay judge is not a member of DAR. Lincoln Academy was not represented this year.
The May 14 DAR program was the instillation of new officers for the upcoming three year term. Mary Lee Merrill, member, performed the ceremony. The gavel was passed on to our new Regent Audrey Miller by past Regent Louise Brown. The new slate of officers are; Audrey Miller, regent; Louise Brown, vice regent; Diane Randlett, 2nd vice regent; Paula Clinton, chaplain and corresponding secretary, Susan Hochstein, recording secretary; Jeanie Hoyenski, treasurer; Louise Brown, historian; and Miriam Buckley, registrar.
The meeting ended with a luncheon.
