Democrats add tribute to Kitty Brown for July 25 meeting
Lincoln County Democrats have a range of important topics on the agenda for their meeting on Thursday, July 25, including a tribute to Kitty Brown, redistricting and, as announced previously, an update on the recent legislative session.
Kitty Brown was a beloved member of the Nobleboro area community. Known for her willingness to help others and her commitment to making this a better world, she was also a strong supporter of local Democrats and an active member of the Nobleboro Democratic Committee. She died suddenly in a tragic automobile accident on July 12, and will be missed by all who knew her.
With the decennial redistricting of Maine State House Districts now complete, there will be significant changes in Lincoln County for the next election.
Among the changes affecting Lincoln County voters will be Edgecomb and Bremen moving to new districts, the towns of Nobleboro and South Bristol split between different districts, the town of Jefferson reunited in a single district, and Knox County town Friendship being joined with Waldoboro.
Sean Smith, Democratic House Caucus Campaign Manager, will discuss the implications of these shifts.
The legislative update will be interesting and informative. Jon Hillier, 2013 Field Director of the Maine Democratic Party (MDP), Senator Chris Johnson, and Representatives Bruce MacDonald, Mick Devin and Tim Marks will talk about the bills that most impact the well being of Maine's citizens and our economy and their outcome.
Lincoln County's Democratic legislators were active in promoting policies to strengthen Maine's economy and help to strengthen employment security, retirement security and health security in ways that are fiscally responsible in the face of an unprecedented number of vetoes from Governor Paul LePage.
All Lincoln County Democrats and supporters are invited to attend. The meeting will be held in the 911 Communications Center behind the Lincoln County Court House in Wiscasset on Thursday, July 25. A 30-minute social gathering begins at 6:30 p.m., and the meeting gets under way at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be available.
