Deputies investigating fatal Alna motorcycle crash
A Jefferson man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Alna Aug. 25. At 5:31 p.m., Lincoln County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting the crash on Route 218/Alna Road.
Deputies found the crash scene at the intersection of Cross and Alna roads. The section where the crash occurred is closed while under construction, with large traffic control barricades at intersections. The initial investigation indicates Michael Bowden, 62, was traveling north on Route 218 operating a 2020 Indian motorcycle when he entered the closed section of Alna Road, passing two separate areas of barricades and construction signage before striking a barricade at the Cross Road intersection.
Central Lincoln County Ambulance took Bowden to Lincoln Health Miles Campus in Damariscotta, where he succumbed to his injuries. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Detective Scott Hayden is leading the investigation. Deputy Jon Colby helped at the scene. Deputy Brian Carlton of Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office is reconstructing the crash as part of the investigation.
