Jeff Rogers named 'Lincoln County Deputy of the Year'
As a Lincoln County deputy sheriff, Jeff Rogers leads three programs: traffic coordinator, drone operations and patrol divisions. He can now add another one to the list. On Feb. 18, Rogers was named "Deputy of the Year" during the commissioners' meeting.
Rogers joined the department in 2024. He spent most of his career working for the Arlington, Texas police department prior to retiring in 2021. Sheriff Todd Brackett told commissioners Rogers has made his mark on the department during his brief tenure. "He arrived and hit the ground running," Brackett said. "He is a drone pilot and organizes drone training for us. He volunteered as traffic coordinator which has helped us put more focus on speeding and other traffic related projects. He is a deserving recipient of being deputy of the Year."
In other action, commissioners approved animal control officer contracts with Damariscotta, Nobleboro and Alna. Commissioners also renewed a combined marine shellfish contract with Damariscotta and Newcastle. Commissioners approved a criminal investigation divison promotion and hiring a transport deputy.
Justin Drake received a promotion to detective. He begins his six-month probation period on March 1. Drake will also undergo specialized sexual abuse investigation training from March 24-28 in Minnesota. Commissioners authorized $2,164 to cover Drake's registration, travel, per diem, meals and hotel expenses."There is no doubt in my mind that Justin will do a fantastic job in CID (criminal investigation division," Brackett said.
Commissioners approved rehiring Ryan Chubbuck as a transport deputy. Chubbuck opted last year to transfer from full-time to part-time status within the department. He will now return to full-time in a new position.
The sheriff's department received commisioners' approval to seek bids for replacement vehicles. Chief Deputy Rand Maker told commissioners the department is considering replacing a detective's vehicle and two patrol units.
Commissioners meet next at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4 in the courthouse.
