Dr. Paula J. Hallett
Dr. Paula Jane Hallett (nee Shea) died peacefully before dawn March 19.
She was the oldest child of the late Pauline Christian Shea and Dr. John T Shea of Foxborough, Massachusettts. Like her father, Paula attended Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, graduating with summa cum laude honors from the School of Medicine. She lived for many years in Concord, Massachusetts and in Boothbay Harbor, Maine where she retired.
Known as Aunt Paula, “P” or Mimi to many, her homes were often center stage and ground zero for the holidays and parties of her large extended family. She had a large heart, particular opinions, and an exacting nature that molded her daughter, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Paula was an insightful psychiatrist, and is remembered fondly for her love and appreciation of the fine arts, theater, travel and culture.
Her loving daughter, only child and great friend, Maren Paula Howarth, preceded her in death in January of this year.
Paula leaves behind Maren’s husband David Howarth and adored grandchildren Christian, Annelise and Emilia. She was also predeceased by her husband, Gordon Olsen, her brother John T. Shea and his wife Anne. She is survived by her sisters Sheilah (Spike) Smith and Cathleen (Chet) Evans, and her brother Dr. J.C. Michael (Joyce) Shea, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will gather this summer in Maine for remembrances of both Paula and Maren, and extends their warmest appreciation to many local individuals who provided care for Paula over the years.
In honor of their many years of assistance to Paula, please support the Boothbay Region Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 280, Boothbay, ME 04537.
