Dresden considers new town sign
Via Zoom Aug. 4, Dresden selectmen Allan Moeller and Gerald Lilly discussed a possible LED sign outside the town office. The sign could be one or two-sided and would be wirelessly controlled. They considered an 85x20 inch option at $1,485 per side.
Town Administrator Michael Henderson said he was under the impression scrolling signs were not legal in Maine. And he said Dresden has an ordinance against them. He will look into both the state and local rules.
The transfer station is back to a full staff and selectmen discussed possibly returning it to the previous hours, including Sunday, starting Aug. 16.
Kevin Campbell represented Dresden Masonic Lodge to discuss its request to set up a roadside fundraiser this fall, off Route 27 near the town office. Campbell said the group has been in touch with Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and reached out to Maine Department of Transportation. Selectmen said while they supported the idea if the masons received permission from all parties, they were not in a position to approve or deny the request. Campbell said he would keep them updated.
Moeller asked if the board should go back to in-person meetings with the public present. Lilly called Selectman John Rzasa, who said he preferred to wait another couple of weeks to decide. All agreed.
Henderson said Lisa Hewitt has started as town clerk and is doing well. Moeller brought up a compliant he received that someone was driving across private property on Popps Road. Selectmen said they would speak to the property owner about putting up “private property” signs as they did not have the authority to take other action at this point. They also tabled discussion of an amendment to the ambulance contract with Wiscasset as they had not heard back from Wiscasset selectmen yet, and took a first look at the draft of a warrant for a special town meeting to vote again on article 16 from the town meeting, which mistakenly approved a budget number from 2019.
The board meets next at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18 via Zoom.
