Edgecomb Community Church welcomes visiting ministers
On two Sundays in July, Edgecomb Community Church welcomes visiting ministers, The Reverend Dr. Eileen Sypher and The Reverend Dennis Wilson.
On Sunday, July 24 at 9:30 a.m., Rev. Sypher will preach from the Gospel of Matthew 6:9-13, in a sermon titled “God’s Household,” focusing on Jesus’ teachings in the Lord’s Prayer.
Sypher is an associate professor emerita of George Mason University, where she taught English literature for 25 years. After her retirement in 2004, she attended the Institute for Sacred Music at Yale Divinity School, where she earned a master of divinity degree in 2007. She was ordained to ministry in the United Church of Christ in 2008, and served in a multi-staff church in Old Lyme, Connecticut before retiring in 2014. She summers with her husband, Dr. John Yrchik, on Barters Island, Boothbay.
On Sunday, July 31 at 9:30 a.m., Reverend Dennis Wilson will preach from 2 Kings 5:14, in a sermon titled “The Simplicity That Is in Christ,” focusing on Naaman complicating his healing when Christ simply says, “Come Unto Me.”
Rev. Wilson is the pastor of Lighthouse Fellowship Congregational Church in Bonita Springs, Florida. Reverend Wilson also serves as chaplain for Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs. He has extensive church experience as preacher/teacher and years of ministry with Christian social agencies such as runaway shelters, homeless shelters and programs.
