Edgecomb Historical Society presents ‘The Life and Times of Samuel Gunnison Wilson, 1781 – 1847'
On Sunday, Oct. 20 at 3 p.m., Edgecomb Historical Society member and genealogist Cathy Orne, will shine a spotlight on one of Edgecomb’s illustrious forefathers, Samuel Gunnison Wilson.
When Wilson was 33, he served as a Captain in the War of 1812. Several men from Edgecomb served under him, some with family names that are recognized in Edgecomb today. After the war, Wilson farmed his land, and at age 61 was appointed Postmaster. Wilson also served as Edgecomb Selectman and Town Clerk for many years. He was well-liked and widely regarded for his wisdom and toughness as a decision maker.
Cathy Orne has been studying family genealogy for over 25 years. Her special focus on helping local families find their roots has led her to deeper understandings of local history and connections among families.
So join us on Oct. 20, 3 p.m. at Edgecomb Town Hall. Cathy’s talk offers an interesting exploration of a memorable Edgecomb forefather, along with a fascinating glimpse into the life and times of Edgecomb at the turn of the nineteenth century
