Edgecomb approves $60K for proposed fire station garage door repairs
In about 10 minutues, Edgecomb residents found a solution to their ailing fire station's garage door. Residents voted, 13-0, at a special town meeting Oct. 29, to appropriate up to $60,000 from the Davis Island Environmental Development District to pay for necessary garage door repairs. This spring, town officials discovered several fire station garage door headers rotting due to water damage.
Town officials received an estimated $49,000 repair cost. Officials considered seeking compensation from the builder or architect before taking a different route. Selectmen decided to have Tax Incremental Funding dollars pay for the municipal project.
"Our legal counsel advised against seeking damages from either the builder or architect. Instead, we decided to use TIF funds," selectman Mike Maxim said.
Maxim explained the warrant article sought more funds to cover any unexpected problems from additonal water damage.
